Maundy Thursday is set aside during to commemorate the Lord’s washing of the feet of His disciples.

On this day, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (Jn. 13:34-35, ESV).

Love as we have been loved is the commandment Christ gives to the Christian. From the word Maundy we get mandate or commandment. We are then to love as Christ loved us. God demonstrates His love for us in while we were sinners Christ died for us (Rm. 5:8).

John tells us, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us” (1 Jn. 4:7-12, ESV).

They will know we are Christians by our love. God is the one who loved us first. The cross upon which He gave His life to redeem sinners is the way He loved us. Our love is a result and reflection of God’s love.

Blessings to all on this Maundy Thursday.
