If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet (Jn. 13:14, ESV).

Christ came not to serve, but to serve, and give His life as a ransom for the sinner (Mark 10:45). Nearing the final moments of His earthly ministry, the Lord left the disciples an example to follow. The example of a servant leader. This would be the way to greatness in God’s kingdom. He would lead the way.

Christ who knew no sin was made sin so that the Christian can have the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:17). He bore our sins upon a tree that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; yes, by His wounds we are healed (1 Pet. 2:15). He destroys the works of the Devil (1 Jn. 3:8).

It is through humility that Christ is exalted to be the King of kings and Lord of loess ( Phil. 2:5-11). He sets the beat for a new song that reverberates throughout eternity.

Maundy Thursday is a time of reverence in anticipation of the suffering of the humble Christ that brings life. I find it a good thing to be reminded of Christ example of servant leadership in the observance of this tradition. If I am to be great, I am to follow the example of Christ. Look not to my own interest but to the interest of others.
